be the inspiration
There are a few people who come across your path as you go through life who are inspirational. I've been blessed to have had quite a few in mine. I had an amazing teacher in 6th form at school - Amanda Flint. She was in her twenties, spoke 7 languages fluently, had been round the world having amazing adventures and was just downright amazing to me when I was 16. Then there was Harry Hutchinson at University. He was supposed to be my Management Tutor but we spent hours discussing the meaning of life - he was on a quest to make sense of the world. He was the most brilliant teacher - he managed to help me make sense of Economics and Maths enough for me to get a good degree, which was a miracle 😀 He left teaching to go into corporate finance I think. Huge loss to education.
Then there was Callum Morrison. A friend of a friend who was the closest thing to Jesus I had, and have yet, ever met. He just shone. He was a simple guy who worked on a boat as a chef. He loved Jesus with a passion and could explain God things so simply and clearly. He really inspired me in my 20s. And there have been others, people who have passed in and out of my life for a season, exciting my mind, challenging my faith, showing me things about life that I had not seen before. I trust you have had those people in your life too.
Yesterday Ben ( 15) asked if he could go out for a walk with me. This is unheard of. I didnt twig until we were sitting on a park bench and he pulled out an envelope and told me that his RE teacher had been having a discussion about spiritual gifts in class. After talking for a while about tongues, she said that
she had prophetic gifts and if anyone wanted she would go away and pray and ask God to speak. The result was in the envelope - a spot on and exciting word for Ben. Just a few lines for him to weigh and pray about. Talk about inspirational! One teacher being brave and faithful has made a big impact on my boy and I am so thankful. She will doubtless be one of those people Ben remembers fondly as being important in his spiritual life. So, the question for today ........ who are you inspiring? Who looks back with gratitude in their hearts that you crossed their paths for a while? We probably won't ever know all the people we touch and help and encourage. But we will probably know some of them because people will tell us the impact we have had. It is our job to make an impact. We are supposed to leave everyone we meet just a little bit better than we found them, smelling of Jesus, perfumed with hope. I dont think we can necessarily decide we are going to be inspirational. But we can certainly pray that we are. To INSPIRE means to breathe into. When God breathes into us then we are able to inspire others. Come Holy Spirit.
